6 Breweries PERFECT for Hanging with Friends

curated by @Phl_BeerDrinker

Hi Philly fam! Allow us to introduce ourselves – we’re Matt and Sam, founders of PBD, and a beer, food, and all things Philly loving couple. We started this account as a fun way to share our adventures, which are always centered on craft beer and having a good time. Thank you to everyone that has followed along with us thus far – we love connecting and sharing with all of you! We appreciate all the support and look forward to bringing more content to the amazing local craft beer community, and sharing what this great city has to offer (stay tuned for official PBD merch)! Here is a list of our favorite places in the city, which are not only making great beer, but provide a place you want to spend time with family and friends.

Love City

Tucked away on a cobblestone street, the spacious taproom in a former rail-parts factory makes for a great place to post up with friends. Can’t miss their giant tent set up outside, which provides a ton more of additional seating and space, with visiting food trucks. Love City is also walking distance from multiple other breweries (shout-out to Triple Bottom, Roy Pitz, and Yards) and concert venues, which makes it the perfect spot to start your night.

Urban Village

Right in the Piazza on second street, this cozy brewpub serves amazing brick-oven pizza to pair with their tasty brews. They often have live music inside and the outdoor lounge is lined with fire pits to battle the cold weather.

Human Robot

They’re unique (just ask them), and their beers are no exception. If you’re looking for a break from the traditional hazy IPA, you can find some of the best tasting European style brews here. Whether you hang inside, or outside in their pirate ship-looking seating on 5th avenue, you can’t leave without a milk tube chug (because why not?) and a sandwich from award-winning Poe’s Sandwich Joint (IYKYK).

Wissahickon Brewing Company

Removed from the heart of the city, Wissahickon has a laidback vibe. This dog-friendly spot is located right near both Wissahickon and Schuykill River trails, which makes for a great place to hang out after a bike, run, walk, or hike with friends (furry ones included). Don’t forget to check out their Instagram for rotating food trucks as well!

Victory Brewing Company

The ever popular brewery from Downingtown just recently invaded Center City, and the space does not disappoint! There are two inside bars, an outdoor beer garden, and a rooftop patio with amazing views along the Parkway.

Cartesian

Located in the heart of South Philly, Cartesian gave this popular neighborhood exactly what they were missing. Grab a cheesesteak and head over to this brand new jawn to enjoy some great beer and good company. With some new beer releases slated for next month, we’re excited about the potential of this neighborhood watering hole.
